The 1962 section of the Station

This section was told to be build in or around 1962. At the time of demolition, this section housed our 2 ambulances, a squad, and a brush truck. We also had our paid personnel sleeping in a closet and in the kitchen. Before we moved into the new station, all operations were being run out of this section as it was in the 1960s.

As you can see, there are 5 ba doors. From left to right, are the Brush truck, tanker, Engine 2712, Engine 2711, and Rescue 2735. Also from left to right is how the old station was built. 1962, 1973, 1982

This in the newest section of the old station. When building the new station, this section was refurbished and turned into a training room.

Saying good bye

This is our way of saying good bye to the old station and it's memories. Crews are setting up to do multiple small controlled burns in the new station. Areas burned were the apparatus bay, the radio room, medical storage, the kitchen and the bathroom.

Learning how it grows

Veteran and Rookie firefighters stand by and watch as a fire set in the foot lockers grows and engulfs the shelves above.

The Old Station

The South Haven Fire Department has been in service since the mid 1950's.  We moved from a small one garage building on June Rd (425W) to the original section of the Old Station in 1962 at the corner of 700 North and McCool Rd.  This section was a 3 bay station facing North and constructed by the Volunteers of the department and the community.  The second section was also constructed by the Volunteers in 1973.  This section was what we called the "middle bay" last year with 2 bay doors facing West (McCool Rd).  In 1982 the final section of the Old Station was built by contractors.  This section was the "engine bay" where we housed the two Pierce Dash Fire Engines and our rescue truck.  This portion also had the Chief's Office, the two duty crew bunkrooms, and the Line Officer's Office.  If you as anyone at the station, most would have some great memories.  Some of the things done there over the years were open houses, pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners and the infamous BINGO NIGHT.

I want to apologize for any alterations in the history.  If anything here or anywhere else on the site is incorrect please let the webmaster know.  We will get the information changed as quickly as possible.
